WordPress Multisite Can Be Structural Advantage For SEO

By Phil Singleton

WordPress is by far the most popular content management system for small businesses.  It’s super easy to use and when structured properly, great for search engine optimization.  WordPress also gives you the ability to create a ‘website of websites’ or your own network of sites, on a single installation.
You can find the official networking explanation of WordPress Multisite here.  We will not get into the background or specifics of WP Multisite in this post, but there are some great posts around the net of this topic such as this beginner’s guide.

In a nutshell, WP Multisite enables you to create a network of websites on a single installation of WordPress.  This means, you can have one ‘super admin’ with network wide control, then create an unlimited number of separate websites, each with their own unique moderators and users.  In one common application, for example, you could have a main domain with generic content and a subdomain with niche specific or geographically specific content.   OK, so what does that mean in real world applications?

The following is a practical example of a WordPress Multisite website.  This following link is to the main or ‘parent’ of a WordPress multisite installation website which shows content geared for a national audience:
http://bloggerlocal.com

Next, here is an example of a secondary or ‘child’ website on the same domain and WordPress installation.  In this case, all of the content is different from the parent website, including the content, images and meta data, and in this example, all content is geo-targeted for a city:
http://kansascity.bloggerlocal.com

Another example of a targeted use of WP Multisite is for niches.  So, as an example on the same domain, here is a child site niche-targeted for photography:
http://photographers.bloggerlocal.com

How does this help for SEO?
While there may be some subdirectory vs subdomain debate regarding the importance and influence of domain structure for search engine optimization, it’s pretty clear that subdomain structure is treated differently that subdirectory structure.  Regardless, using WP Multisite is not appropriate for all businesses nor is it pure SEO structure advantage.  The main benefits of using a subdomain structure in WordPress Multisite for possible SEO advantages are likely only realized when using this technology with a genuine and comprehensive approach, and for the following reasons:

1. The subdomain address is technically a separate website address.  Yet, search engines likely neutralize any potential benefits of trying to use subdomains in and of themselves as and SEO advantage.

2. The subdomain website is technically a separate installation of WordPress, meaning, it’s a separate CMS, with a separate blog and users.  Chances are that installing a full website on a subdomain shows this is a website and not a thin microsite or page.  This is why you can see that free Web 2.0 blogs on blogger.com and wordpress.com, etc. subdomains can achieve rank when they publish high quality content.

3. The child site content is quality and unique: this shows the search engines that the child site should achieve rank for its niche or territory.  Then each child site’s SEO potential can be further strengthened with unique social signals and NAP (name-address-phone number) citations if appropriate.

4.  It’s possible to map a unique domain, ie a separate domain to a child site.  Having a unique top level domain (TLD) mapped to a child is clearly be an SEO advantage as a child site with a unique domain to the parent site would have to be treated like a separate site by the search engines.

While WP Multisite may not be a fit for most small businesses, it certainly offers an awesome, cost effective structure for many types of businesses. Businesses such as restaurants, franchises, chapter-based organizations, property management firms, etc.  could all benefit from this type of “site of sites” networking structure.  By having the ability to carve out niche and geo-targeted child sites, there may be significant SEO benefits as well.

5 Steps to Building a Better Blog

Step 1: Create an Amazing About Page
A Persuasive, Benefit-Driven Headline
shows what you and your site can do for them.

A Short, Reassuring Benefit-Driven Introduction
to learn how your site can help them.

Reassure your readers that they’re in the right place.
Tell them exactly what your site will give them, and what it will do for them.

Social Proof, Testimonials, And Other Reassurance
promises and reader-focused copy, adding a few testimonials, and reassurance will help your readers realize they’re in the right place.

Your Personal Story.
Share your personal story, remember, people are there to learn about you and what you can do for them. Share information about your personal life—like marriage, kids, and etc.
That’s one way you can bond with people who visit your site.

The Closer,
ask people to take some form of action when they’re done reading your content.
You can launch into a description of some of your products or services.
You can also ask them to subscribe to your blog.

Step 2: Fix Your Blog’s Sidebar
#1 A Persuasive Call-To-Action
either put an email sign up form at the top or an ad

#2 Links to Resource Pages
Link to your best, information-packed resource pages
right below your main call to action.

http://socialtriggers.com/list-building

#3 Links to Popular Articles

What NOT to Put In Your Blog Sidebar
#1 Stinkin’ Badges
You might include a badge of some marketing award,
but unless people know who issues that award, chances are they don’t care.
However, if you get recognition from something like Time magazine, or Forbes,
or something major like that, a badge from their site might be worth while.

#2 Your Twitter Stream
If you put your Twitter stream in your sidebar, you’re sending people away from site.
That’s backwards, avoid the Twitter stream at all costs.

#3 Links to every social media profile
If you present every single social media profile that you have on your sidebar, people won’t click on any of them.
So, instead, pick one or two social media networks to promote, and only link to them.
(Personally, I’m against linking to social media websites at all on your sidebar, but in some industries I recognize this is necessary. Especially if you’re dealing with business to consumer).
http://diythemes.com/thesis/blog-design-sidebar/

Step 3: Write your articles with keywords in mind…
The goal is to take your regular content, and just keep a keyword in the back of your mind while you’re writing it.
Don’t use the keywords for the sake of using the keywords.
For example, having h2 tags surrounding your headlines on your home page… and h1 tags surrounding your headlines on your single post pages.

Step 4: Start using a Feature Box
Feature box comes with opt-in forms to join a list, get access to an offer, or email updates on a subject.
Add a Feature Box above both the content and the sidebar on our home page only.
Inside that feature box, we offered our free ebook
http://diythemes.com/thesis/feature-box-download/
http://diythemes.com/thesis/aweber-email-signup-forms/

Step 5: Create your first resource page
It’s not a category page, as a category page shows all of your articles.
A resource page is a HAND-SELECTED group of articles around a specific topic.

First, create a landing page.

Second, include both a persuasive headline and introductory content before throwing people into an article list.

Simple Step-By-Step Formula For Creating Resource Pages
Scour through your blog’s archives, and find your best content around that key phrase you’d like to rank for. Write those links down, and proceed on…
Prepare a persuasive headline that encourages people to read your resource page. Don’t just use your key phrase. Use a real headline.
Craft compelling copy to introduce people to your resource page. Talk about a potential problem, and position your hand-selected articles as the solution.
Actually create the WordPress page, and paste your headline, introductory content, and links to your articles in the page.
Change the permalink of your page to match the key phrase you’d like to rank for.

Driving Traffic with Your Market Stats Tools

Real Estate Blogger, Colleen Kulikowski, and Virtual Results Support Manager, Leah Marks, discuss the benefits and uses of the Market Stats tools in driving traffic to a realtor or property investment site.

Colleen has years of experience blogging on her real estate sites and has been successful at getting many buyers and sellers from those efforts.

With a little planning you can drive significant traffic to your website. Today, Market Reports are the backbone of my website. The good news is that good content doesn’t have to be complicated!

In July of 2006, I wrote my first post. I labored for days on what I was going to first write about.  Once I decided on Market Reports, it took me a couple of hours to create a simple market report.   Today I maintain more than 80 market reports and each one takes me less than 5 minutes to update.

These market reports are some of the most popular posts on my site and they can be on yours too!  A small investment in time on your part can pay you big dividends in the future. Market reports are simple to create and update.  Run some stats off of your MLS (or other info source site) and publish. Just remember to give credit and use a disclaimer if required. To get you started, here is the format I use (see the live report here). Feel free to use it as a template.

Are You 'Layering' SEO? You Should Be.

BY Brad Miller

SEO isn't what it used to be.

Ten years ago, an SEO specialist might spend 40 hours a week on keywords, title tags and content manipulation. Nowadays, he or she must possess a much broader skill set and think far more strategically.

That's because there's been a shift toward Search Marketing Integration (SMI) or "layering." This concept is forcing digital marketers to become master collaborators who can effectively utilize cross-departmental initiatives to fuel a rise in organic visibility.

The credit for this idea has to go to Rand Fishkin, CEO at search-software company Moz. During a conversation with Rand, I asked him whether the term SEO was still relevant. He explained that, rather than looking it as something distinct and isolated from your other business and marketing initiatives, you “need to add SEO as an important review layer on top of all of those other things.”

I think this is a really good way to conceptualize how SEO needs to be integrated into all aspects of your business to have the greatest probability of success. It really helps to visualize these concepts, let them sync in and “get it.”

In order to become a master collaborator and get the most out of your search efforts, it helps to break your collaborative efforts into four distinct areas:

1. Interaction
The first thing every successful digital marketer must do is learn to interact with the different departments within their organization. This has to be done regularly and consistently in order to produce results. The only way to discover the SEO opportunities that exist elsewhere in your organization is to communicate with your colleagues and actively undercover them. This includes attending cross-departmental meetings, happy hours and formal training sessions. You can even uncover SEO opportunities during conversations at the water cooler.

2. Persuasion
Once you’ve had a chance to interact and identify opportunities, you need to motivate your colleagues to help you achieve your goals. The best way to approach this is to find a champion within each department. I won’t bore you with tactics for motivation, but it’s vitally important to have a friend that can communicate initiatives from within their department. Having a reliable ‘point-of-contact’ can drastically help you turn ideas into actions and push your initiatives up the priority ladder.

3. Organization
This is probably the most difficult part of mastering the art of cross-department collaboration. Unless you are organized right from the start you will find yourself struggling to organize and motivate your ‘helpers’. In most cases it’s best to put the infrastructure in place right from the beginning – before you even start approaching people from other departments. There are some great tools you can use to help with this process including digital project management tools like basecamp, collaboration tools like tracky and idea organization tools like mind map.
The simplest way to get started is to create a spreadsheet that will document all of your opportunities. You’ll want to create tasks for regular communication (weekly check-in emails with ‘helpers’), ongoing lists for all SEO opportunities, dates for timely opportunities, rating mechanisms for prioritization and a list of actions items for each new opportunity.

4. Implementation
The implementation process will vary based on the nature of each new SEO opportunity. Some things will be easy low-hanging fruit that can be accomplished quickly, like updating a press release. Other opportunities will take an incredible amount of time and effort like collaborating with your engineering department on creating an interactive site widget that can be used for link building purposes. The systems you put in place need to be designed to handle tasks at each end of this scale.

The search marketing world has changed. Content is still king and link building is still queen (debatable), but collaboration is the key to both crowns.
To make sure you publish content that delivers value to visitors at every point in the sales cycle, you need to collaborate with departmental colleagues across the organization. By approaching this ‘integration’ in a measured, organized way, you can increase the probability of success.

How to Create a 'Perfectly Optimized' Webpage for Search

BY Kevin Allen

Just what is search engine optimization, anyway?

It's the practice of creating a digital piece of content or web page that is Google-friendly. If a page is SEO friendly, it's findable when you search for it. It's easier said than done, though. But a new infographic from Moz makes it a bit easier.

"The perfectly optimized page" gives an example of a bakery that has a splendidly findable chocolate donut recipe.

It's keyword-targeted, bot-accessible and incorporates relevant metadata that helps the bots browsers use to crawl websites place pages in searches.

How to Make Your Website More Mobile-Friendly

BY Barbara Findlay Schenck

Forget about designing your website for mobile devices. Instead, design your website for all devices, from tiny phones to huge living room flat-screens.

"Nearly every business needs to adapt to reach consumers effectively on any screen," says Janine Warner, a globally recognized digital design and Internet trends consultant who I caught up with on her way to Abu Dhabi, where she took the World Summit Award stage to share multiple-screen strategies before a vast audience of international mobile specialists.

"There are two basic strategies for building websites that display well on all devices: responsive and adaptive," she explains. "And responsive sites are the best bet for most small businesses." Following is a translation of what that lingo-laden sentence means, along with key steps your business should be taking.

At a minimum, adjust your existing site for today's Web users. No business can afford to ignore the fact that more than a billion people primarily access the Web from mobile devices. Even if you're not ready to rebuild your site for optimal display on all devices, at least take one of the following two steps:

Simplify your site design.
Pull up your website on a smartphone (or view it on the Google PageSpeed Insights) and you'll probably see the need for design changes. To display well on mobile, Warner recommends simpler page designs, large font sizes, critical information placed "above the fold," and big, touchable buttons that are fat-finger-proof. Minimally, she says, "You'll go a long way toward delivering key information on any device simply by putting your name, phone number and a link to a map at the top left of your home page where it is easy to find."

Create a mobile version of your site.
As an alternative to editing your website, you can create a parallel version, using mobile-site-design services, many of which are free or low cost. "But there are tradeoffs," Warner says. "If your mobile site has a second URL, such as one with a .m subdomain, search engines may or may not find it." Both Bing and Google advocate a one-URL approach for findability and search engine optimization. "Still, if you love your site or can't afford to rebuild it, creating a mobile site that links to your main site isn't the worst strategy," Warner says. "The worst strategy is to ignore your mobile audience altogether."

Better yet, rebuild your site for display on any device.
Here's where the terms adaptive and responsive site design come into play:

Adaptive design is the high end of website design. It's used by big companies that invest -- heavily -- to reach the largest possible online audience. "American Airlines is a good example," Warner says, explaining that adaptive design "detects and identifies the user's device and then generates a page matched to the device capabilities."

Responsive design is a more affordable solution that uses CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) technology to create a single version of a website that auto-adjusts to display properly on all devices except the oldest cellphones. "A responsive site allows you to reach the most active Web audience," Warner says. As an example, she pulls up the site of The Boston Globe, clicks on the right edge of the browser window and drags to the left, shrinking the page from full screen to an area the size of a smartphone. No matter how small she makes the display area, the Globe's responsive design looks good and is easy to read.

Commit to future-proof your website
As you prepare to make long-delayed investments in your business, put website redesign high on your list so you'll be ready to reach consumers via their phones, tablets, PCs, TVs or, soon, refrigerator doors, bathroom mirrors and more.

Even DIY platforms, ranging from GoDaddy.com to WordPress and many in between, are starting to offer designs that work on a variety of screen sizes. "Just be sure the theme you use is labeled responsive," Warner says.

Alternatively, she says that for a few thousand dollars or more, a professional designer can create a good custom website, "unless the designer doesn't know the term responsive, in which case you need a different designer."

Finally, once you get the technology right, turn your attention to creating great website content. "Remember," Warner says, "that especially on mobile devices, people access your website for three reasons: to save time, to connect with others and to waste time. So give them quick and easy access, put your contact information front and center, give them links to maps and directions, and then add video or other amusements to keep them on your site for as long as they want to stay."

That's how to future-proof your site.

No Mobile Website? You're Probably Turning Customers Away

BY Jason Fell

If you still don't have a mobile-friendly version of your website you're most likely turning away potential customers without knowing it.

Consider the numbers: Nearly half of all U.S. adults use a smartphone, according to recent findings by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. Ninety percent of those smartphone owners say they use the device to check email and surf the web. That's not counting people who use other mobile devices, such as tablets, to access the web.

With mobile internet traffic on the rise, you might think small businesses are developing mobile-friendly websites. But you'd be wrong. Only 26 percent of small businesses have a mobile website. That's a growing problem -- especially for local businesses.

Take, for example, a recent excursion I had with a friend in New York City's Upper West Side. We were on the move, smartphones in hand, looking for a particular restaurant -- which will remain nameless -- to grab a bite to eat. I used my Motorola Droid Razr to look up the restaurant's website but all I saw was a white screen with two links to download PDF files of the lunch and dinner menus.

No contact information. No hours. No easy-to-read menu. Sorry, no business from me.

With more people using their mobile devices to access information about companies, business owners need to think about how their website displays on smartphones and tablets. If content isn't easy to read and access on a smaller screen, customers might go to the next shop down the block instead.

When developing a mobile-friendly website, or a dedicated mobile site, here are some important things to keep in mind:

1. Display your company's most important information at the top in plain text.
This includes your name, address, contact information and perhaps a brief description of what you do.

2. Don't include Flash-based videos on your mobile site!
Many devices don't support Flash. Plus, video eats up data and can take a long time to load.

3. Make information easy to read on a small screen.
Don't complicate navigation across several pages, and don't make users download PDFs. The more straightforward, the better.

4 Low-Cost Ways to Turbo-Charge Your Website

BY Jonathan Blum

Creating the most dynamic and effective business website doesn’t have to break the bank. With reasonable effort, investment and a modicum of Web know-how, you can either build a website or significantly improve your existing Web presence -- for less than $200 in one-time costs.

To do so, you’ll need to know which tools are essential and how to use them. Here are four low-cost ways to get your site not only functional, but attracting customers and helping you close more sales.

1. Get a professional look.
One of the easiest ways to create an effective, low-maintenance website is to combine off-the-shelf content management systems with a pre-made Website template. That way you have a unique-looking site that’s distinguished from basic Web tools such as Google’s Blogger format or Typepad that can also support complex live content.

Among the most popular website hosting services that support free content management systems are WordPress, Joomla! and Drupal. All can manage dynamic content without any tricky or costly coding on your part.

The basic software packages for Joomla, Drupal and WordPress are free. Premium features and extensions, such as e-commerce tools, can be purchased but prices vary. Downloading and installing the basic and advanced versions of these tools does require an understanding of Web software. WordPress, however, offers a hosted version which doesn’t require any software installation.

You’ll also need a professional-looking template for your site that is compatible with your content management system. Options include New York-based Template Monster, which lets users narrow down themes based on business type and website purpose. Templates can cost about $50 each.

2. Analyze your website.
Not getting an accurate picture of how customers use your site might be the single biggest mistake online businesses make. Analytics tools can help you find out how many people visit your website, how much time they spend on each page and what service referred them.

One option is Visistat, which not only offers a number of web analytics services but also tracking of your online marketing campaigns and behavioral data on your site’s visitors. The average package costs about $50 per month.

But the most popular and perhaps the most effective analytics tool is Google Analytics. This free service generates deep, constantly updated visitor statistics. Installation usually only requires you to copy and paste a line of tracking code into your Website code, although some content management systems including WordPress make it even easier through plugins.

3. Get feedback.
Constructive criticism can be key to any business website. While full-on website testing technologies can be effective, they can also be costly.

Southborough, Mass.-based uTest offers access to a global network of 50,000 Web-connected testers and can create custom testing templates for everything from usability to security. Basic usability testing starts at several thousand dollars per engagement.

But there are numerous low-cost online testing services that can provide reviews. For example, Washington, D.C.-based Feedback Army lets businesses post four to six questions about its website, which are answered by online testers. Prices start at $20 for 10 reviews. For $39, Mountain View, Calif.-based UserTesting.com, can provide you with a video of an actual human tester using your website and talking about it as he or she navigates it.

4. Integrate social media.
Your website should link to your business’ social media accounts, but it’s even more important that your visitors be prompted to share your website through their own social media identities.

Most social media sites, including Facebook and Twitter, provide detailed instructions for how to insert “Like”, “Share”, “Comment”, and “Tweet” buttons onto your Web page. Depending on how your website is hosted, can be installed as simple as copying and pasting some code into a website template or downloading and installing a plugin.

They also provide feeds showing your Facebook updates, Tweets and other ways people are interacting with your website -- which can be some valuable information when it comes to knowing your customers.

Bottom line: Working through the fundamentals of good design, compelling dynamic content, properly installed social media and user data can be the fastest and most affordable ways to gets results online.

eBay Wants .ebay Domain

by Ina Steiner & Danielle Nordine

ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers, the main oversight agency for top level
domains (TLDs) and regulator of the Internet, will
begin offering endless variations on domain
addresses.

The proposal would allow companies to purchase new
generic top-level domains ending in almost anything
they wished.

Rather than have a domain that ends .com or .co.uk,
an individual or company could have a domain that
ended .itpro or .ebay.

eBay is a current contender to use its name,
according to ITpro, angling to purchase the
domain .ebay. Cities such as New York and Berlin
have been campaigning for their own domains as well.

“We are in the process of opening up new real
estate, new land, and people will go out and claim
parts of that land and use it for various reasons
they have,” Dr Paul Twomey, chief executive of
ICANN, said. "It's a massive increase in the
geography of the real estate of the internet."

ICANN estimated last year that only 17 per cent
of the original four billion network addresses
remained available, and that addresses are expected
to run out within the next five years.

If the proposal is passed, as expected, new domains
would be open to companies by the beginning of
next year.

The application fee for a domain name under the
proposed system has not been determined, but
estimates say the price could range from €25,000
to €250,000, placing such domain extensions out of
the reach of most consumers, as well as most
potential cyber squatters.

HOW TO DRIVE BIDDERS FROM EBAY TO YOUR WEB SITE
by Skip McGrath

Awhile ago, eBay implemented a new policy to keep sellers from linking from
the auction description to a web site or shopping portal where they could sell an
item directly without waiting for the auction to end.

Shortly after, eBay introduced eBay Stores, which would seem to accomplish the same
thing. Still, sellers wanted to get visitors to their web site in the hopes of selling them something else or making an immediate sale. The advantages are obvious. First you can sell to many people who just won't bother placing a bid and waiting for an auction to end. Secondly, you avoid paying the eBay listing and selling (final value) fees.

As to the second item, fee avoidance, I can see eBay's point. They are in business
to make money. But so are we. After all, we are paying eBay a listing fee (and
feature fees). This is no more than an advertising fee. eBay isn't really losing any money. If the website links work (and they do) eBay will miss some small final
value fees, but they will make up for this in listing fees because sellers will place
more listings.

Here is eBay's current links policy: "The eBay item page can only be used to
describe, promote and facilitate the sale of the listed eBay item - it cannot refer
to or promote the seller's individual website, off eBay sales or other businesses.
The eBay About Me page is a place where the seller can promote their individual
website or business. The eBay Sell Your Item page can not contain URLs or links to,
or promotional information about, any off eBay webpage, including websites of the
seller or any third party."

There are 2 basic exceptions to this general rule - the Sell Your Item page may
contain a link to information related specifically to that item that:

"Gives acknowledgement to a company that provided services related to that listing
(such as counters, auction management tools, or payment and mediation services).
This acknowledgement may contain both a logo (88 x 33 pixels) and up to 10 words of text (HTML font size 3) but only one of those may be clickable.
Points interested buyers to another Internet page that contains only more
information (such as pictures, product specifications or detailed terms and
conditions) about eBay items listed by that seller.

Links from the eBay Item page that interfere in any way with the eBay bidding
process, or solicit any eBay user information, are not allowed. Links from the eBay
Item page to pages that promote off eBay sales in any way are forbidden, though
such pages may generally themselves contain discrete links to other commercial web
pages."

So how do we work with these rules? Here are some ideas.

Notice the sections. The first one states: "The eBay About Me page is a place where
the seller can promote their individual web site or business."

The second reference says: "Links from the eBay Item page to pages that promote off
eBay sales in any way are forbidden, though such pages may generally themselves
contain discrete links to other commercial web pages."

The key words in this section are "discrete links."

If you have an AboutMe Page there will be a "ME" symbol next to you user name.
Some people do click on this to read about you.

A better way is to invite them to view your AboutMe Page right in the text of your
item description.

Make sure to create a hyperlink to make it easy.

Here is an example with the HTML code:
http://cgi3.ebay.com/ ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=xxxxxx

Just replace the XXXXXXX with your eBay username to create the link.

I have been collecting and selling Beatles memorabilia for over 20 years. Please
visit my AboutMe page to learn more about Beatles collectibles and our business.

Once readers arrive at your AboutMe page you can then direct them to your website
with a live hyperlink.

eBay also allows you to provide links to purely informational pages with information
(including more photos) about the item you are selling.

We used to sell amber jewelry. Each of our auctions contained a link to a free
article entitled "All About Amber." That page contained an interesting article about
amber, how it was formed, where it came from, and so on. However, that page also
contained a link to our storefront web site where people could purchase amber
jewelry items directly.

The trick to driving bidders from eBay to your web site is to:

1. Follow the rules
2. Use the rules to your advantage by finding
clever loopholes.

The AboutMe Page is still your best bet for promoting your website. The best
strategy is to point sellers to your AboutMe page in your auction description and
give them a reason for visiting it.

Good luck on eBay!

Why You Need A Fully Enabled Website

Why you need a fully eCommerce enabled website if your in the auction business and
do you own your site?

Over 50% of the students that have enrolled with us have had a website that they
think they own.

In reality, it’s either one of the free sites that are given away as virtual
toys or your web developer owns it. Maybe you own the domain name, but many
developers keep all other information away from you so you have to use them every
time you have to make a change.

We had one student that spent $30,000.00 on her web site in 3 years before she
came to us only to have it taken down when she ran into some brief financial
hardship.

We profess that you should own your site and learn how to make changes. Some student sites are built based on modified open source osCommerce shopping cart code that gives the online store owner a variety of features. You will see all over the
internet people selling using modified osCommerce sites (one of the best shopping
carts on the internet today).

The osCommerce shopping cart features include a link exchange built into the store
admin that checks reciprocal links for you, individual shipping per product (great
for drop shipping or multiple vendors), free shipping per product option, a fully
customizable store template that is easy to edit and cut ‘n paste HTML into (this
is necessary, to edit yourself or just add affiliates to the side columns and many
shopping cart templates are not easy to edit), multiple newsletters and more!

PayPal also let's members easily create Buy Now Buttons that lead a customer to a
shopping cart. Check under Merchant Tools in your PayPal account dashboard. All you need to do is enter your pricing information, copy the generated code and paste it
on your product description page.

Students websites also use RSS feeds on the side (I can help you choose appropriate
RSS feeds for your website so you always have fresh content). We’ll help you sign up
for affiliates like Linkshare, ClickBank, Google AdSense and place relevant affiliates on your website.

My webdesign service can also optimize your site for search engines with valid META
tags, robots.txt file and an HTML splash page. A splash page is a plain HTML page before your cart that is search engine friendly.

Search engines cannot see Flash or other animated features. The search engines will
only recognize animations as a flat image with no readable information for ranking.

Your website is built to be your headquarters and owned by you! Let me also teach
you how to make changes easily, so you are not paying everytime you call a
developer trying to figure out why your system is charging $45.00 to ship a $1.00
item.

However you proceed alone or with a guide, you should include the above items in
your web spec sheet. It’s the old saying: teach a man to fish and he can
eat forever...
